About Professor Rajab Challoo

Dr. Rajab Challoo is currently Professor and former Chairman of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department and former President (multiple times) of the University Faculty Senate. He is a registered professional engineer in Texas. Dr. Challoo has teaching and research experience in Electrical Engineering in the field of control and power systems and robotics.

During his recent service as chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the department grew from about 350 students to more than 1,300 students in less than four years, which necessitated the addition of 12 faculty and additional administrative assistant.

Dr. Challoo served the Faculty Senate for many years including serving as president three times in 2004, 2013 and 2016. He has served as chair or member of over 30 university committees. He received the University Faculty Senate’s Distinguished Faculty Service Award, Engineering Dean’s Outstanding Service Award and was honored by the students in his department as Professor of the Year four consecutive years. He also received a merit of excellence award and the University Javelina Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Challoo served as vice president and president of the Texas A&M-Kingsville American Association of University Professors and vice president of the campus Texas Faculty Association. He was elected by the Texas State American Association of University Professors to serve as vice president for District III for the state conference. Within the IEEE Corpus Christi section, Dr. Challoo served as Chair of the Computer Society for seven years. He has also served many times as a Judge in the Caller-Times South Texas Distinguished Scholars Program.

Dr. Challoo was founding director of the Maquiladora Electrical Engineering master’s program and of the University Honors Program, now the Honors College. He has been involved in over $7 million in funded external research grants from the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research and Department of Defense and along with his colleagues and students has published over 100 technical peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Challoo also served as President of Innovative Technical Solutions, an engineering consulting company.
