About Professor Jorge Belinha
Jorge Belinha is graduated in Civil Engineering and holds a M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering, both obtained in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Additionally, in 2010 he has concluded his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at FEUP. Since 2002, he has been a researcher at FEUP and "Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering" research institute (INEGI), in the Biomechanics Unit (UCVE). He is the director of the Computational Mechanics Research Laboratory (cmech.webs.com) at INEGI.He participates actively in international and national research projects, in cooperation with clinical and academic partners. His areas of interest, both in research and teaching, are advanced discretization techniques (high order finite elements and meshless methods), nonlinear computational solid mechanics and biomechanics and machine learning in computational mechanics.
As a result of the researching activities, until 2020, he has published: three books with international distribution; 80 papers in international scientific periodicals with referees; 55 book chapters; and he is author of more than 400 works published in proceedings of conferences.
From 2009 to 2018, the was an invited professor at FEUP. Then, since 2018 he became tenured Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto, in which he lectures several structural mechanics unit courses, such as Classic Mechanics (Static and Dynamics), Solid Mechanics, Continuum Mechanics, Finite Element Methods, Advanced Discretization Techniques and Computational Biomechanics. In addition, he has supervised more thant 70 MSc thesis and 8 PhD thesis.
